She is known for her sweet and loving nature. Her Life and Death counterpart is Archie Cullen. She is portrayed by Ashley Greene in the movie adaptations.
I had a little sister named Cynthia. Her daughter—my niece—is still alive in Biloxi… I went through all the old newspapers on microfiche. My family wasn't mentioned often; they weren't part of the social circle that made the papers. My parents' engagement was there, and Cynthia's. My birth was announced… and my death. I found my grave. I also filched my admissions sheets from the old asylum archives. The date on the admission and the date on my tombstone are the same.
Her father was a jeweler and a pearl trader. Alice's mother tended to their home because her father traveled often. Alice was prone to having premonitions of the future since she was a child, though they weren't always correct. Though she rarely spoke of her power, people in town talked a lot during her adolescent years. On two occasions, she tried to warn a friend and a cousin with her unfortunate predictions, but they refused to listen and when the predictions came true, she was blamed for cursing them, earning her the epithets of "witch" and "changeling" from the townsfolk.
Alice had a horrifying vision of her mother being murdered by a stranger and tried to warn her about it. Though she believed her, her father did not. After months of precautions with nothing serious happening, her mother put her guard down, and was eventually killed.
While Alice saw it happen and tried to explained that it was murder, it was declared accidental and her father silenced her. Within six months, her father remarried a blonde Yankee from Illinois whose father was a promising customer. Alice's stepmother treated her coldly while making a pet of her sister. Alice suspected that the marriage and her mother's murder were all planned and carried out by her stepmother.
Her father raged at her for suggesting ill of his new wife. Then, Alice had a vision of her father and her mother's killer planning to kill her, revealing the true face of her father. She tried to hide in her closest relatives' house, but they drove her away as they still blamed her for the death of their son.
Alice then rushed to the town's marshal, but her father was already one step ahead of her. He told the townsfolk that his daughter had gone mad, and had her trapped in a mental asylum two counties away. While in the asylum, her head was shaved during the threat of typhoid outbreak.
She also endured electroshock therapy which rendered her with total amnesia, but it also restored her naturally cheerful and humorous self.
A vampire who worked at the asylum befriended Alice and treated her like a daughter. He also frequently visited her with objects hidden in his hands to test her powers, and shielded her from other horrifying treatments as best as he was able. One day, Alice had a vision of a powerful tracker named James coming after her, which occurred the moment he caught her faint scent. She informed the vampire of this, and he planned to escape with her, but Alice still saw James catching up to her, and every option he offered her ended the same way.
When he decided to change her, Alice saw that this would be very close, and they might not have enough time. The vampire immediately bit her, took her away and went to distract James, sacrificing himself in the process. When James finally found her, her blood was already fully turned and he decided to let her live a savaged existence to see how she might turn out in the future.
When she woke up, the pain of the venom erased all of her memories, just like the shocking treatments did. But her premonitions were also intensified and her first vision was of Jasper Whitlock becoming her mate and of a happy future with the Cullen family. Unlike most of her adoptive family members, she developed a conscience on her own, which kept her from feeding on humans, though her success was sporadic. Knowing that she and Jasper would join the Cullen family in the future, she started practicing a "vegetarian" lifestyle while waiting for Jasper to show up.
Inshe waited for him to arrive at an empty diner in Philadelphia; by now her self-control was comparable to the Cullens. She was very excited when he finally arrived, and Jasper reciprocated her feelings very quickly. Inthey joined the Cullens' coven and got married a short time after.

Alice started using the surname 'Cullen', while Jasper adapted to the surname 'Hale' to ease some of the confusion and gossip they cause to the humans around them. Alice had come to love everyone in her adopted family, but grew increasingly fond of Edwardwho understood the burden of her supernatural talent.
Sometime after joining the family, she attended several high schools and colleges and earned degrees in fashion design and international business. Twilight Alice and Jasper coming into the cafeteria.
You do smell good. When Edward first states his attraction towards Bella, Alice is interested, since she had a vision about her and Bella becoming good friends and knew that it could one day happen. Therefore, she is very supportive of the relationship between them. She is desperate to meet Bella but Edward forbids her. On Friday, Alice takes up the courage to introduce herself to Bella. When Bella comes to visit the Cullens' house, Alice is polite and friendly, acting as if Bella is already a member of the family.
Later that day, the Cullens decide to play baseball, with Alice as the pitcher, and invite Bella along to watch.
Three nomadic vampires, JamesLaurentand Victoriaarrive. Alice had a vision of them showing up later in the week, but after hearing the baseball game they had decided to investigate. With Laurent taking the lead, Bella assumes that he is the leader of the coven, but it is soon revealed that James is the leader, and they intentionally tried to fool the Cullens.
Because the decisions are made so quickly, Alice fails to see the coming events. Laurent shows interest in their lifestyle, and Carlisle suggests they all go back to the house where he will then explain their diet of animal blood. It seems that Bella will be able to walk away unnoticed, when James suddenly catches her scent. Laurent defuses the situation and the three vampires leave.
Edward, having read James' intentions, knows that James won't give up so easily and tries to leave town with Bella. Bella, not wanting to leave her father unprotected, devises a plan for her to go into hiding in Phoenix, Arizonabrought by Alice and Jasper.
The Cullen's work together while Bella is being hunted, with Esme and Rosalie chasing Victoria, and Carlisle, Emmett and Edward chasing after James, trying to lead him away from Bella with a false trail.

Alice with Jasper in Phoenix. After arriving in Phoenixthey stay in a hotel, and Alice receives a vision of a ballet studio, not understanding what it means.
They realize James has changed his plans and calls Edward. Just before Alice, Jasper and Bella reach the airport to meet Edward, she sees Bella in the ballet studio, and although what she sees is unclear, we know that it is something horrific.
Alice does not inform Bella of it. When Alice, Jasper, and Bella wait for the rest of their family at the airport, Bella slips away from the girls room, causing Alice great worry. Notice she calls them both by their first names, which I would be fine with if it were established that her paents are okay with this. She usually calls him Dad to his face, yet at one point she calls him Charlie in front of visitors and there are no repurcussions. And then Charlie gets a girlfriend at the end of the series, the wife of a friend of his that died, who Bella is happy he now has to cook for him now that she no longer lives with him.
Never mind about the fact that he took care of himself just fine before Bella lived with him. She barely accepts his authority over her.
She expects to go wherever she pleases wether he likes it or not. At the end of book 2 she is nice enough to leave Charlie a note when she flies off to Italy. When she comes back she lets him ground her. She accepts that she should be punished for worrying him like that but she is in control the whle time, constantly threatening to move out if he imposes a punishment she disagrees with.
The worst thing Bella does to Charlie is at the end of book 1 when she needs an excuse to leave and she says the same words to him as her mother said when she left him.
Can she not protect him withot being so hurtful? Really, if nothing else, Charlie should at least be upset with her. It also gets to me that the author seems to believe everything Bella says about her parents.
I sometimes have negative thoughts about my parents but I would never think they are helpless and need their children to feed them. My Mom is the one who used to keep me healthy and wake me up for school. My Dad is the one who helped me learn to read and develop and interest in learning.
Since Bella was raised almost exclusively by her mother and is an avid reader, I assume her mother did both jobs. Of course Charlie makes some stupid decisions too. I think he just wants to watch sports. At first I was mad at Charlie for abandoning Bella this way, but then i realised those were the two pages she is safest in the entire book.
Even if he had been supposed to be at work, he could have easily gotten off in this situation. When i realised that i half-jokingly asked why Meyer hates her father. It also bothers me in book 3 when Charlie hears about Jacob sexually assaulting Bella and responds by congratulating him. What makes it really confusing is that later Charlie regrets not teaching Bella how to better defend herself in these situations.
Where is the logic in that? I agree with Charlie that Jacob is just a kid and therefore expected to be a bit impulsive, but he actually congratulated Jacob for the kissing equivalent of rape.
Maybe have the gun in hand. And yes Charlie should have better taught Bella to protect herself from abusers, maybe it would have saved the entire series from happening. One of the things I actually like about the series is the Cullen family backstory, one of the few imaginative things in the books. In fact I like all the Cullens except Edward. Like ghosts, they are trapped in whatever emotional and mental state they were in when they becaame immortal.
The teenage Cullens will always think and behave like teenagers because their bodies and their brains are incapable of developing beyond this. This means that the entire point of the series is how Bella became a creature who never has any desire to change and is completely okay with the idea, which is fodder for more rants I have about the series. Meyer thinks a person in their late teens is fully mature and should throw their life away for some guy.
Carlisle is the Dad of the Cullen family. He is a doctor and the only one who works regularly. Esme is the Mom of the Cullen family. And that's what we're hoping to clarify and expound on. I don't want you to feel like I'm reducing everything about you to a single sentence, but it's sometimes helpful to develop a shorthand for each of you.
Tell me who I am," Emmett said, chin up, smiling, challenging.
Aro looked at him a moment and decided to charge ahead, "Emmett, the gregarious, jovial fool, everybody's favorite teddy bear. He continued before Emmett could formulate a reply, "Jasper, the intelligent, handsome, soulful brain of the band. No way I was going to let that notion get too firmly rooted in there. The beautiful girl-next-door lead singer. Rose elbowed him in the ribs. We're all equals here. And if somebody is going to be the face, shouldn't it be Rose?
She's so much hotter than me. Aro held up a hand to interrupt us. But we think the two of you are equally appealing to fans in very different ways. Rosalie, while you are stunning, and the guitar angle adds a whole new level of every-man's-fantasy to the mix, when we play you off of Isabella, it's like you're an exotic wild animal, beautiful but also otherworldly and out of reach. Bella is our real girl, approachable and touchable. Either one alone in the band wouldn't work the same way.
It's the two of you together, playing off of each other, that works so well. And Rosalie's exotic beauty works better when she's distant, not too open. So Bella is the girl in front doing all the talking. You're the lead singer anyway, dear. It makes sense for you to be in front. And I seriously didn't like the idea of always being in front speaking for us.
I looked up and locked eyes with Rosalie. She smiled and gave me a tiny nod. I've known Rose since we were five years old. It made sense to her, I could tell. And she was eager to play her role. Well, if she was game to be a remote untouchable sex goddess, I suppose I could be the warm and cuddly girl next door. That was pretty much just me anyway, attractive, but not stunning.
Certainly nothing as flashy as Rose. And aside from when I was onstage, when I slipped into my performance persona, I was clumsy, not graceful and sexy like Rose. I didn't know how to dress and Rose looked like a supermodel all the time. It would be easy to hate Rose for her perfection, but I didn't. I'd known her too long.
I understood what it was like for her to be hit on by 30 year old men when she was I also understood what it was like for her to have absolutely no female friends outside of me, and what it was like for her to have to mistrust the intentions of nearly every man she met. And I knew Rose's heart, how much she loved my boneheaded cousin, Emmett. How loyal she was to all of us.
Yes, sometimes I felt a little invisible next to her, but I loved her fiercely just the same. Aro cleared his throat and continued; "Now you're in the studio working on the album, which is very exciting. It's going well, I understand? We've been playing it for the producers and there's a bunch of songs they want us to record, to see what comes of it.
We're also writing some new stuff. Jasper was our musical soul, we all knew it. You don't need me for that. The four of us," he said quietly. The label has thoughts; we'll talk more about that as we get closer. And I'll be looking for other placement opportunities as well.
Performing your first single on TV shows, the Superbowl, any other appropriate venues that turn up. I'll be working all angles. I've explained your personal dynamic, as we see it. We'll be looking for publicity opportunities to showcase you, to cement your public personas in the American consciousness.
Public appearances, awards shows, presenting, that sort of thing. We also feel that Bella may have some crossover potential. Nobody is an actor and yet everybody in this town winds up in a movie. I'm not saying you have to, I'm just suggesting we expose you in such a way that it's a natural fit should you decide you want to pursue it. Having you mingle in the movie world, so you seem a part of it already. Then making the move won't seem like such a stretch. That stuff seems like it would just be a distraction.
What makes Bella famous makes you all famous. That's how it works. The higher your profile, the better the band will do. My family in every way that mattered. They looked interested; no one looked unhappy or uncomfortable. Jasper, as always seemed to sense what I was feeling.
