She then watches Boruto while he competes in the Chunin Exams, being approached by Naruto to use her Byakugan to confirm his suspicions that their son is cheating by using a particular ninja tool. After Momoshiki Otsutsuki and Kinshiki Otsutsuki attack and subsequently kidnap Naruto, Hinata tries to rescue him by giving chase to the pair, only to be wounded and healed by Sakura.
While Hinata is against Boruto joining Sasuke's rescue team, she eventually gives in. With Naruto then rescued, Hinata tends to the damage of Boruto's jacket before he declines. Hinata is a popular character among Naruto fans, ranking 10th in the first annual character popularity poll,  6th in both the second  and third, 12th in the fourth,  9th in the fifth,  13th in the sixth, and 10th in the seventh. So why the hell does she have to be able to outsmart you too. While she isn't the smartest character in the series, Hinata is still considered to be one of the brainier ones thanks to her studying her butt off to make up for her shortcomings in skill as a child.
This was shown in the Chunin exams where, during a test that entirely revolved around cheating because it's been designed in order to be nearly impossible to figure out on your own, she was confident enough in her answers to offer Naruto the ability to look off her own sheet.
It also doesn't show on screen how she managed to obtain those answers, which means she likely figured them out on her own. Paired off against her much stronger cousin, Hinata received a bit of a wake-up call and reaffirmed for herself and all who witnessed that she really did want to be a ninja. Essentially losing the match thanks to a strategic first strike from Neji that essentially sealed away her abilities, despite knowing this though she continues to fight and receives what could only be described as the beating of her life.
Yet she keeps getting up and continuing to fight until Neji literally tries to kill her and the officials stop the fight for her safety despite the loss her confidence and determination only began to rise.
Naruto Creator Explains Why Neji Ultimately [SPOILER]
Honestly, the episode itself is pretty awful, but it winds up showing a lot of Hinata's future growth as a character and foreshadows her and Naruto's eventual relationship. Throughout the episode, she proves to be the driving force for her team to help Naruto, even while she's training a new ability.
During the climax, she winds up nearly single-handedly defeating three adult ninja and a swarm of killer bees Either way, Hinata winds up finally being praised by her family for her efforts. The two male Hyuga quickly abandon this duty to try and go save other people, leaving Hinata the only one to defend her love, which she does valiantly.
Instead, she ops to shield Naruto with her body, again intending to die in order to assure his survival and victory. She's only saved her demise by Neji instead blocking both of them with his own body, a sacrifice that leads to his death and a seriously shaken Naruto.
He was so close to an endless despair that would have doomed everyone to his own selfish self-pity. Until Hinata, after watching her cousin die for her and having been fully prepared a moment before to die herself, slapped him and reminded him of their shared Ninja Way of never going back on their word. She put aside her own tragedy in order to make certain that the fight would go on, that Neji and all those others who died wouldn't have done so in vain.
With a tactical slap, she put a quick end to Naruto's pity party. Smiling, Neji told his father that Hinata was cute. After his fight with Naruto, Neji changed his way of thought and stopped believing that fate cannot be changed. Sasuke Recovery Mission Arc Neji and Hinata being friendly to each other There are also several moments that show the two of them passing by each other in the Hyuga compound. In one of them, as Hinata runs on the compound's hall, she bumps into Neji.
Both of them are extremely surprised by the encounter, as they are still tense towards each other after their match. Hinata spins and avoids him with an agility that impresses Neji, as he remains still and stares after her, while Hinata timidly excuses herself and keeps running further.
They found Hinata badly injured and Neji quickly started looking for a medical ninja, using his byakugan. Later, Sakura treats Hinata and Neji questions why would Hinata do such a reckless act, as to try fighting Pain alone.
